Damnation Plan is a Finnish progressive metal band known for blending their intense, trademark rhythms, apocalypse painting synth sounds, and melancholic melodies. Their genre-crossing style features both clean and harsh vocals, while their lyrics explore personal introspection and address modern-day societies' cultural taboos and phenomena.
Described by The Metal Channel as “a melodically progressive death metal act with heavy metal influences is truly unique to this genre” the band’s sound has evolved over the years. With the latest album, The New Horizon (2023) via Inverse Records, the band's style shifted towards predominantly clean vocals, marking a renewed era for the band.
Mean while the band's stylistic pivot towards longer and more progressive compositions with only clean vocals on The New Horizon, the shift was mostly positively received by the Finnish metal media. The album earned “5/5” and Album of the Week honors from leading outlets such as Kaaoszine, Imperiumi, and Tuonela Magazine.
Formed in 2004 by Jarkko Lunnas and Kalle Niininen in Espoo, Finland, the band released their debut EP Darker World in 2007, followed by first live shows, including a Tuska 2007 Warm-up show. First full-length album, The Wakening (2013), released via Coroner Records and mixed by Dan Swanö, featured Tommy Tuovinen (MyGrain) on harsh vocals and Asim Searah (ex-Kiuas) on clean vocals, establishing the first more significant mark in the band's career.
In 2017, Reality Illusion was released via Inverse Records. After a series of Finnish album release shows and their first international gig in Tallinn supporting Suicidal Angels, Tommy Tuovinen departed in 2019. Asim Searah then took over all vocal duties, delivering impressively both clean and harsh vocals live, most notably during headlining shows at On The Rocks in Helsinki and at Dark River Metal Festival in 2021.
With the addition of bassist Jaakko Nikko, and the departure of bassist Jukka Vehkamaa and lead guitarist Antti Lauri, Damnation Plan has continued to evolve. The third album, The New Horizon, released via Inverse Records in 2023, sees the band continue pushing the boundaries of modern Finnish progressive metal.
